Really the only canon thing they ever seem to base it on is that he stuck up for her in the beauty contest, but, like, seriously that’s just a tiny nothing compared to all the obvious (and CANON) GP and MAG moments. If writing on TV shows had been consistent and if continuity had really even been a thing back then, there would be no confusion whatsoever. None. Or no, probably there would be anyway, because shippers see whatever they want to see regardless of canon.
Personally, I suspect it has something to do with people just liking the sound of “The Professor and Mary Ann” because “HA HA IT’S THE THING IN THE SONG” and people are silly. No. A million times no.
Blah.
He only stuck up for her in that episode because Gilligan HAD to be the tie-breaker BECAUSE IT’S HIS SHOW! And it wouldn’t be funny and there’d be no shenanigans if Proffy or Skippy were the tie-breakers.
Also because Proffy is a ~gentleman~.
Meanwhile Dawn was secretly like, “I’mma bust out my Miss Nevada 1959 walk. TAKE THIS SHIT, TINA!” And The T was like, “heeeeeeeell naw” and put on her leopard print. But everyone knew G Man would never vote for Ginger because Bob Denver shipped the MAG. Hard.

(Also lets talk about the times MAP were like “OMG EW!” about each other and all the times MA was like “OMG G MAN, YOU’RE WONDERFUL!” and made those dreamy eyes all over Season 1 at him. Yikes).
I probably sound drunk right now, but I assure you I am not. I just have a lot of feelings about them. I’m actually working on a long lost fic of mine right now, yaay!

I just … I just don’t understand. What are they basing this on? SHOW ME SOME CANON. I mean ‘cause I kept a MAG chart when I was about 12 and it was pretty extensive and 100% taken from the series, sooooo….

I’m sorry, it’s late and I’m emotional. But I can’t wrap my head around it. Sometimes they’re even all, “Hey, this is OOC” in their notes, in which case great, have at it, practice your writing, but I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND!
